"What is easy to make but impossible to keep forever"...?
More illustrating fanfic ideas with impunity. I like Codec's mask on this sketch, I may have to come back and finish him properly.

The prequel era masks are my absolute favourite for the Ghoul looks thus far and I’m always so excited whenever you draw them! 🫶🏽
yess I'm just so drawn the era of the metallic masks of Ghost, Meliora and Prequelle masks my beloved. I have so much fun personifying the masks according to which ghoul I'm drawing.

Been debating redesigning Ettore this year. There are parts I love about his design, and I have yet to reveal his backstory + mask. It'll still be the same, but I'm thinking of changing him visually just a lil bit.
Kind of want to match these vibes, honestly

Here's part of an activity you'll find in the book – with instructions removed, because this one's not quite just a free-form coloring page. Can't wait for you to see the rest of the piece!

... So, I went hat shopping today...
Picked up a middling 'pirate' hat for my Bauta costume, which you see here. You may also notice the enlarged eye holes in the mask. Both the hat and the mask need more work (maybe a lot), and I should really have some kind of black veil as well. But, as far as my kind of costuming seems to go, this is pretty simple, so far.
....Also got a different hat, for a different costume / joke, which will be revealed in time....

I have to share my old headcanon about the Manager too, now that @that-giorgione posted his cryptid design. I always interpreted this card as a person wearing a big tricorn hat with a cape and a bauta mask
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The hat gives him a distinct 18th century look so when the game mentioned the red and gold colour scheme and the brass buttons this is what I had in mind:

Ok I know the killer with the Bauta mask was slowly transmuted into Buddy Boyle but I really think you need to bring him back for Gutmouth
Here is my case:
1. It's a cool concept. A relatively mundane serial killer discovered to not only be very not mundane but also the same kind of creature as our hero is cool. He's not just the average monster of the week that they've been dealing with for however long, it's unique and familiar with his ways which makes it especially dangerous
2. Jumping off from that, villains with the same power as the hero but they use them for evil is a goated trope. Maybe it's even better at shapeshifting or resistant to whatever Kevin's known vulnerabilities are, forcing them to find a creative solution
3. Cool design. The Bauta mask is striking and pulls together an otherwise very understated outfit. The many small mouths are creepy and is a good mirror to Kevin's one big mouth
4. Excellent storytelling opportunities. While not just being a compelling threat, it can also build intrigue and answer core questions without giving too much away.
From what I can gather, a big central conflict is going to be Kevin's inner turmoil regarding his identity. Who he is truly, where he came from, the fact that he stole someone's life and what that could mean, the very human thoughts and feelings that has to reconcile with the very inhuman instincts and appetites. It would be an interesting foil, as a being, just like Kevin, that is unconcerned about these things. That isn't held back by the pain, confusion, or emotional dissonance. That indulges its appetites freely, with concern for nothing but the kill.
It creates very terrifying and cool avenues for conflict: maybe it's the reason why they're the last of their kind and wants to finish the job, maybe it's the opposite and it wants to mate with him and overrun the world with their spawn, maybe like Kevin, it was a mindless and relatively innocent creature that consumed a maniac who now wants to "liberate" Kevin from his human nature
Overall I think you could seriously work with this concept
(small correction: 'kevin' is not gutmouth's name, it was the name of the man he ate. the monster guy goes by 'phineas')
i appreciate the ideas! but this concept wouldn't really work out with the gutmout verse's lore or the plot i have so far; that's no fault of yours, since i'm deliberately not going into detail about a lot of that stuff.
but basically two big things kinda prohibit this, which is that a) the worldbuilding is such that another being with the same powers as phineas cannot exist, and b) the whole idea of others trying to get him to succumb to his "true" nature is already a plot point, and probably the most detailed one that i have mapped out so far.

Mine goes as follows: Meliora, Prequelle, and Infesti! I would technically count Opus since it's same type of mask.

Wanted to draw Melody again.
And of you don't know
this is Melody and as I stated before she's an SCP OC (one of my first ever), but her story is that she's actually a clone hybrid that was accidentally made in a more secret facility that was just trying to clone SCP so they could attempt to do risky tests on SCPs without accidentally killing The Originals but someone f***** up and they decided to just change the project to studying these clone hybrids instead.
Melody is made with the dna of scp 049 and the back scrapings from scp 035. She has a quiet observant personality and has a small job in the facilities Library being the librarian. Everything about her body is solid save for her arms which appear to be made of a non corrosive fluid that she is able to change and manipulate to whatever she wants.
She also has a younger 'brother' named Heph who's only 4 years old younger than her (she's 22).
And her face is a Bauta mask.

Oh yeah, so does anyone remember that one Professor Layton OC I made back during my Layton phase?
Not Eileen, I’m talking about this guy here. The character who was unnamed but was part of an idea I had for a Layton story (and also an ex of Descole’s)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well, I actually named him ages ago, as well as gave him a bit more stuff (not a lot, just a bit), and about 2 hours ago I just randomly decided to draw/redesign him again. For no particular reason, I just did it
If I’m being honest, I don’t think the redesign turned out half bad. I didn’t do much, just changed up his hair and outfit a little, but I think it works. Ironically I was using Ace Attorney characters as more of my reference here than Layton. Maybe not the best but it works
Also I know his cane arm looks weird, but shh
I wrote most of the stuff about him up there, but his name is now Claude di Adone, for reasons I don’t remember. I do remember where Claude came from though, it was @notllorstel’s Twisted Fates AU Descole that was Layton. And also that his name was supposed to sound both vaguely French and Italian
As I recall, the hypothetical plot centers a good deal on parts of Descole’s past (though not a lot on Descole’s character development), where Layton and co come to this town where at least in public, everyone dresses similar to Descole. Not necessarily because of him, but rather because it was based on the bauta masks and the fact that apparently people in Venice once commonly wore these outfits and that sounded cool
Actually I think I remember the name of the story now, I believe it was City of Masks or something like that
Edit: I found the original post, it was Town of Masks
Anyways, Claude was the one who called Layton here, as he wanted him to solve some mystery going around the town that I never really figured out, and had done so after learning of his reputation
However, there’s more to Claude as he actually once knew Desmond Sycamore when they were younger. The image says “friend” because they weren’t just friends, they were actually dating, but Claude might not make that fully known. There are hints prior to this revelation that Claude knows a bit more than he should about Layton from the papers, or at least on a level that he shouldn’t for a complete stranger, like trying to call Layton by his first name. This is because Claude has been fully aware of the Hershel twist for years as this was before Desmond got super secretive about his former life and considered Claude someone he could trust. So from Claude’s perspective he’s meeting the famed younger brother of an old friend/ex of his that he’s never fully gotten over his feelings for, and he occasionally forgets that Layton probably doesn’t know that
But not only does Claude have a past with Desmond/Descole, but Descole himself happens to be in the town as well, albeit with a bout of amnesia. Note that this is supposed to take place sometime after the prequels. Claude is well aware of this, and this is the second secret reason he called Layton, as he knows Layton has a past with both Desmond and Descole, and hopes that Layton will be able to jog his memory, especially as Claude himself has been struggling with that due to the large gap in time from when they last met
Also, there’s the matter of his cane. Originally I said that he used one due to an injury in the past, but now I’ve decided he’s just always had weak legs, and has been using a cane pretty much his whole life. His cane does still secretly have a sword though
Claude is a nice guy, and can be rather generous, such as letting Layton and his friends stay in his house for their time here, since he’s rich with a big house and lives alone aside from some servants, so there’s plenty of room, and he does ultimately have good intentions, but he can also be shady as fuck sometimes and you probably don’t know him as well as you think
And yeah, I just felt like sharing that. Don’t know if anyone cares but I did
